At IU Group, we're proud to announce our continued support for Bienenweide e.V. Since 2021, our collaboration has led to the creation of almost 30,000 square metres of vibrant bee pastures, nurturing biodiversity and fostering a thriving environment for pollinators.
The Story Behind Bienenweide e.V.
This non-profit organisation transforms rural areas such as vacant fields into flowering landscapes. They've also established insect-friendly herb meadows in urban spaces and enhanced allotments with wildflowers. These efforts significantly improve food sources and habitats for wild bees, butterflies, and other insects. Growing from a modest start with 2,000 square metres of bee pasture in Niederstetten (state of Baden-Württemberg), Bienenweide e.V. now cultivates more bee pastures across four German federal states. This growth is driven by dedicated members passionate about crafting a better environment.
Why Bee Pastures Matter
In recent decades, the number of insects and their species has dramatically declined, a trend largely driven by human activities. This biodiversity loss poses a serious threat to our food chain and ecosystems, as insects play a critical role in pollination and maintaining ecological balance. The mission of Bienenweide e.V. is to combat this decline by creating food sources and habitats for wild bees, butterflies, and other insects. By planting bee pastures with regional seed mixtures, supported mainly through donations and sponsorships, they are actively working to restore vital insect populations. Additionally, Bienenweide e.V. provides educational material on wild bees and butterflies, spreading knowledge through public events like film nights and info booths. These initiatives are designed to connect people with nature’s beauty and foster responsibility towards our ecosystems. Workshops offered by Bienenweide e.V. teach practical skills such as building suitable nesting sites for insects and creating regional seed mixtures to ensure a continuous supply of nectar and pollen.
