Matthia Leyendecker Wins the IU Diversity Award for Innovative Dementia Prototype

Healing dementia is nearly impossible. Those affected, as well as their family members and caregivers, face an enormous burden. Matthia Leyendecker, in her bachelor's thesis at IU International University (IU), has developed a novel approach that can give individuals with dementia more independence and relieve caregivers. For her innovative solutions, the 28-year-old from Coburg was awarded the IU Diversity Award 2023. Within eight weeks, the IU student in the User Experience Design (UX-Design) program created a prototype that allows those affected to independently stimulate their cognitive performance through playful exploration of different media formats.

The IU International University, Germany's largest university, has been awarding the IU Diversity Award twice a year since 2018. The jury consists of a ten-member team of staff from teaching, the examination office, equality, and other specialized departments. Students from IU in Germany as well as from the international community have the opportunity to submit their bachelor's or master's thesis. The IU Diversity Award aims to contribute to increasing public awareness of the diversity research field and is endowed with a prize of 500 euros.
