From 26 to 29 May 2026, the Cologne campus of IU International University of Applied Sciences hosted a Sustainability Week, bringing together students, faculty, and external contributors for a series of lectures, discussions, and practical activities focused on sustainable development.
The multi-day programme included academic lectures on topics such as sustainable social work, migration, and mental health, alongside interactive formats and on-site activities.
In addition to lectures, the week featured practical engagement opportunities, including:
This combination of formats was designed to connect theoretical perspectives with practical action and to encourage participation across different stakeholder groups.
The week was opened by Alex Čaičics, Head of Sustainability and ESG Communications at IU Group, who welcomed participants on behalf of IU and outlined the university’s approach to sustainability in higher education.
Overall, the Sustainability Week reflects IU’s aim to integrate sustainability into everyday academic practice by creating formats that encourage engagement across disciplines and roles. The combination of academic input and practical activities demonstrates how sustainability can be addressed both conceptually and through direct participation within a higher education context.
