IU Group reaffirms commitment to carbon neutrality with PAS 2060:2014 certification

We are pleased to share that IU Group has successfully renewed its certification in accordance with the PAS 2060:2014 standard. This development underscores our ongoing efforts to manage our environmental impact amid organisational growth.

During a period of dynamic expansion and integration of new international partnerships, IU Group remains focused on managing and reducing our carbon footprint. Our commitment to distance learning and home office practices has helped keep our emissions significantly lower than those of traditional universities.

Sustainable practices during growth

While our absolute emissions are still on the rise during the current period of operational growth, we are proud to be among the few higher education institutions committed to calculating and transparently reporting our carbon footprint. Our focus has been on limiting the growth of our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions alongside our offsetting efforts. We acknowledge that offsetting is not the optimal long-term solution, and we are actively exploring ways to further reduce our emissions.

Investing in global projects

To support our carbon neutrality objectives, IU Group has invested in several impactful, Gold Standard-certified carbon offset projects, which promote sustainable development and benefit communities worldwide:

1. Clean Water Access in Malawi: This initiative enhances access to clean water, reducing the need for boiling water, which in turn lowers emissions and health risks.

2. Improved Cookstoves in Uganda: The distribution of efficient cookstoves reduces reliance on firewood, mitigates deforestation, and improves indoor air quality.

3. Empowering Women in India: Providing solar lamps and water filters helps reduce fuel use and emissions, while empowering women entrepreneurs and improving livelihoods.

4. Improved Cookstoves in Zambia: These cooking solutions help households cut emissions and health risks, decreasing pressure on local forests.

Looking ahead

While we continue to implement sustainability measures across our operations, we recognise there is much more to be done. IU Group is committed to exploring innovative approaches to further reduce our environmental footprint and enhance our sustainability.

We invite our students, staff, and partners to join us on this journey towards a more sustainable future, as we work together to drive meaningful environmental change while enriching the educational experience at IU Group.
