AI tool for effective PR of NPOs: a project supported by IU

Nonprofit organisations (NPOs) play a crucial role in addressing societal challenges, from education and environmental protection to social welfare. However, they often lack the staff or financial resources needed to effectively carry out professional public relations work, which limits their ability to communicate their important messages to a wider audience.

The IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) has partnered in the Comms4Good (C4G) project, aimed at helping NPOs in Germany enhance their communication efforts through an AI-powered PR tool. This initiative combines research and practical implementation to support nonprofit organisations in Germany.

The C4G project involves two main components:

1. Research and Analysis: Led by IU professors Josef Arweck, Nele Hansen, Laura-Maria Altendorfer, and Carla Aschendorf, an academic research team investigates the specific communication needs of NPOs. This involves expert interviews and large-scale surveys to understand how NPOs currently communicate, the tools they use, the challenges they face, and how improved communication could boost their impact. These insights directly inform the development of the AI tool.

2. Development of the AI-Powered PR Assistant: Concurrently, Daniel Brunner and Daniel Ackermann from Producer Media UG are developing an intelligent tool that enables NPOs to quickly generate professional PR content. The AI assistant can automatically produce press releases and visual materials like flyers and posters, all without requiring technical expertise. Additionally, the tool is fully GDPR-compliant, adhering to the highest standards of data protection.
